Our Contribution – Making an impact
Humanity is facing serious challenges. Communities are being marginalized. Global health crises expose our vulnerabilities. Demographic trends such as growing, ageing populations create new pressure on healthcare and our global society. Climate change is threatening life on our planet. Boehringer Ingelheim wants to be part of the solution to these challenges, as we will always strive to be better: develop better therapies, enable better health care solutions and continuously do our utmost, to ensure that we live in a better world. We believe we can always do more – for ourselves and for the generations to come.
At Boehringer Ingelheim, our purpose has always been to improve health for humans and animals. We are elevating our purpose to the next level; to build on success addressing unmet needs for therapies, increase the scope of our social and environmental ambitions, and ask what more we can do to contribute to a sustainable world, and a healthier future. As a family-owned company, we plan in generations. This includes developing meaningful strategies to contribute to sustainable solutions, alongside creating long term economic value for Boehringer Ingelheim, our stakeholders and the communities we serve.
Sustainable Development - For Generations incorporates initiatives that we have been driving for many years, evolving these to more ambitious goals to significantly increase our impact on health, society and our planet. In doing so, we generate greater long term economic and social value for our stakeholders, the communities we serve and ultimately for our employees and our business. This also furthers our contributions to the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
By 2030, we want to transform health and positively impact the lives of 100 million people in vulnerable communities globally. Therefore, we are continuously expanding our access to healthcare activities and are investing into community programs, in which our employees, partners and social entrepreneurs engage.
We are increasing our contribution to a healthier future for humans, animals and the environment by continuing to invest in innovation that will find solutions for unmet health needs, enable sustainable access to healthcare and contribute to food security and safety.
We are committed to investing EUR 35 billion in health innovation to tackle non-communicable diseases by 2030, as well as investing EUR 250 million in partnerships to specifically combat emerging infectious diseases.
In addition, we are expanding our work on climate change, reducing our own environmental impact and helping protect our planet. We plan to become carbon neutral in our operations by 2030 and to reduce our natural resources footprint by half across our value chain.
We are a business of over 51,000 employees who touch the lives of millions of people and animals around the world. At Boehringer Ingelheim, we believe that when we commit to improving the way we think, work and live, we can make a significant difference.
