The 2 to 3 year Management Trainee Program in Biopharmaceuticals offers you diverse insights into the entire value chain of biopharmaceutical contract manufacturing. The program is offered at two Boehringer Ingelheim sites – Biberach and Vienna. During several 6- to 12-month rotations, you will get to know the company’s structure and acquire valuable technical and leadership skills in different areas including but not limited to process development, biotechnological production, quality and compliance, matrix functions, project management and contract manufacturing business. In addition, you will get a chance to spend one of your rotations abroad at one of the global Biopharma network sites (Biberach, Vienna, Fremont/California or Shanghai).
Another highlight of the trainee program is mentorship. An experienced mentor from the middle or senior management will guide you throughout the program and help you plan individual job rotations according to your interests and career aspirations. The choice of projects that you will get to work on in your rotations is very diverse. Many of them are improvement projects aiming to implement a new technology or a new quality assurance process. You will act as a project leader (or project manager) and work together with your team towards finding the best solution for a given challenge. You will get to organize independent workshops and meetings, and present the results of your work to stakeholders and sponsors. Alternatively, you will support an experienced laboratory or group head in daily operational tasks.
As a trainee, you will not only gain hands-on experience of working in different technical areas but also strengthen your soft skills and leadership competences by participating in different seminars together with fellow trainees from different programs. In addition, the trainee circle offers you a vibrant, international and interdisciplinary environment to facilitate your personal and professional development. Together with other trainees, you will also have a chance to organize annual visits to different Boehringer Ingelheim sites and Leadership Days with top managers from the company.
The goal of the trainee program is to prepare you for possible future leadership positions within the company. Successful candidates must have completed an academic degree (Master, Diploma or PhD) in pharmacy, natural sciences or biotechnology with above-average academic performance. In addition, they bring strong analytical skills, have an open mindset and could develop their ideas independently. Prior international experience or working in international teams is another valuable asset. Finally, very good knowledge of German and English rounds up your profile as a successful trainee.
Management Trainee Program in Biopharmaceuticals is offered annually at two different Boehringer Ingelheim sites – Biberach and Vienna. The application process consists of three steps. In the first step, you apply via our online application system. In addition to the completed form, you need to submit your resume, a motivation letter for the trainee program and your education certificates (from high school to the most recent degree). In the second step, a short telephone interview with HR takes place, which lets you elaborate on your motivation, background and experience. Finally, the selected candidates are invited to the assessment center, which takes place on site. The assessment center gives you an opportunity to get a first impression of the company, its work environment and future colleagues. On the other hand, you get to show your analytical skills and innovative entrepreneurial thinking in real-life situations. After each application round, 2-3 new trainees are hired at each location.
