Continuing a journey that began more than 135 years ago, Boehringer Ingelheim steps up its commitment to sustainable development, building on its historical success in addressing unmet health needs and increasing its ambitions to tackle global health and societal challenges.

More Potential works to provide the best conditions for our people, communities and partners along our value chain to enable them to reach their full potential, to be changemakers, and to impact on these challenges.

More Potential is one of three pillars of Boehringer Ingelheim’s ‘Sustainable Development - For Generations’ framework, encompassing the company’s plans to build on the strength of its’ people and communities, by supporting global health objectives with a focus on the potential from within the Boehringer Ingelheim family of employees and partners. It is focused on providing the best conditions for the people within the Boehringer Ingelheim organization, communities and partners along our value chain to enable them to reach their full potential, to be changemakers, and to have an impact on societal challenges.

Our More Potential initiatives

Boehringer Ingelheim has a strong commitment to its people, which includes providing a safe, healthy, and fulfilling work environment. One, in which talent can develop and employees excel, empowered through engagement opportunities. Recent examples for this include a company awareness program and support structure on mental health, plus participation in the EU’s ‘Lighten The Load’ campaign to further support employees, especially during remote working situations.

The company also continuously steps up efforts in the areas of human rights and ethics and utilizes an approach that is in accordance with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Furthermore, Boehringer Ingelheim’s commitment to the objectives of the More Potential pillar impacts collaboration with business partners along the value chain. For example, Boehringer Ingelheim recently updated its supplier code of conduct to reflect the newest expectations it has a company, its patients, government, and society place upon suppliers.

Moreover, Boehringer Ingelheim’s commitment to Diversity & Inclusion goes beyond the customary focus on employees. Instead, these criteria are applied to practices within the core business.

The ambition of the company’s flagship initiative “Making More Health” is to enable collaboration to co-create healthy, inclusive, and sustainable communities. The focus is to engage communities that are being marginalized, due to issues such as health, education, employment prospects, and living and working conditions.

To reach this objective, Boehringer Ingelheim partners with Ashoka, the largest global network of social entrepreneurs, enabling changemakers, in order to create innovative healthcare solutions for and together with vulnerable communities. To date, over 120 social entrepreneurs have been supported globally.

With new initiatives being created, and existing ones evolving and expanding, Boehringer Ingelheim expects the More Potential pillar to continue to gain momentum as it works towards further evolving its sustainable development program, in order to achieve its 2030 sustainability commitments.
