Boehringer Ingelheim China for a Greener Future

“I live in Shanghai, one of China’s biggest cities with a population over 20 million. Here, we could improve air quality significantly over the past years by restricting the number of cars on the road and by introducing electric bus fleets. I am always confident that if everyone tries their best to reduce emissions, pollution and energy waste, we can make an actual change in the world. That is the reason why I use public transport instead of a car and when I go shopping, I bring my own bag, instead of using the plastic bags customers are given at the register. It is important to me to live sustainably in my daily- as well as my work life.

I am glad that the management of Boehringer Ingelheim and my co-workers share my beliefs. When we started the MORE GREEN initiative in China in 2015, everyone was immediately on board: the different departments and every single employee work together to lead our company towards a greener future. Our employees took e-learning sessions and face to face training to educate themselves on how to act more sustainably. They even handed in concrete suggestions on how to make our facilities ecologically friendly. The best ideas were rewarded by our management and directly implemented by all relevant departments. 
Some measures were quite simple, yet effective. Like the replacement of all regular lights with LEDs and light switches with motion detection sensors. We encourage colleagues to use electrical cars or e-bikes by providing free charging stations within our manufacturing sites. Our engineering colleagues are doing a great job in the reduction in consumptions of water, energies and waste generation. I believe, it’s everyone’s responsibility to work towards a more sustainable future and it makes me happy to be part of Boehringer Ingelheim which takes this commitment seriously.”
