Theresa Rothenbacher Trainee Medicine Experience Report
How is the working culture at Boehringer Ingelheim?
If I have only word to describe it, it would be open. Speaking Up is not only desired, it is demanded.
It is a safe environment where people really care for each other and want to go the extra mile to help patients.
How was your onboarding?
My onboarding was really smooth and that besides of Covid. Not only in my first rotation but also the whole onboarding
as a part of BI DISCOVER and Boehringer Ingelheim in general. There were a lot of opportunities to get in contact.
Also, because the working culture und environment is ropen you can literally ask anyone at any time in case you have questions. It was easy to become a part of BI, the trainee circle and my team.
Why did you choose a Trainee program as an entry position?
I didn’t know that much about different medical functions and possible roles as a physician within the pharmaceutical industry. The Trainee program offered me the opportunity to get to know various fields and positions in a really short time. Because I have the possibility to talk to Trainees from departments like Finance or Biopharma my understanding of the company’s structure and other departments evolved. Additionally, I have benefited from the activities of the Trainee circle, for example seminars or networking events.
How did you like the application process?
I liked it much, everything was transparent, and I knew what was expected. Communication was clear and quick. Due to Covid the interview and assessment center was online, but that has been solved well.
Could you give any tips for future applicants?
If you read the job description, ask yourself not only “Am I the right person for this job” but also “Is this the right job for myself”. Can you answer both questions with yes, just try it. You have nothing to lose, and you will gain experience.
Regarding the application, be sure you read the job description carefully and create an application just for this job.
Which additional activities does the trainee program offer?
A lot, not only seminars, networking events and after work activities. What I appreciate most is the contact to colleagues from completely different departments and the insights I get into their work and perspectives.
Which of your projects/tasks were the most exciting?
I was able to take over the role as an MSL (Medical Scientific Liaison) and be part of launching a new drug. This was an exciting, and maybe once in a lifetime experience.
