Trainee Experience Reports: Teresa – Biopharmaceuticals Vienna
How is the working culture at BI?
In my experience, BI’s working culture focuses on cooperative and respectful teamwork, which allows me bring in new ideas.
How was your onboarding?
In Vienna, there are monthly onboarding events for all new employees. Where you learn all basic information necessary for a good start at BI – where to find the cafeteria, what data safety measures to ensure and of course, what the company’s focus is (commercial and social). My second onboarding was within the trainee circle. I really enjoyed meeting other trainees from all over the world and connect instantly over our mutual experience.
Why did you choose a Trainee program as an entry position?
After my MSc in Cell Biology. I decided to follow a career path in the corporate sector. Having an almost entirely academic background, I did not know about the different positions and areas that exist in pharmaceutical industry. Therefore, this trainee program provides me with the opportunity to dive into the company’s structure, while acquiring and developing my social and professional skills needed for my future career at BI.
How did you like the application process?
The application process was very exciting, especially the further I got. The most memorable part for me was the assessment center day with the fellow candidates. Especially there, but also throughout the whole process, everyone was very appreciative and encouraged me to be my authentic self.
What qualifications make you a successful trainee?
I really enjoy working with people from various functions and backgrounds.
Could you give any tips for the future applicants?
This might be applicable for any job application: ask yourself “what are the essential requirements your ideal job has to offer”, and then look for an employer that focuses on these aspects.
Which additional activities does the Trainee program offer (in addition to daily tasks)?
As a trainee, I receive special social skill trainings in the form of seminars. Our trainee-programs-spanning events offer great opportunities to connect and share knowledge as well as experiences with fellow trainees and alumni.
What is your experience with the Mentorship?
In regular meeting with my mentor (a member of the upper management team) I receive valuable feedback and personal career guidance.
Which of your projects/tasks were the most exciting (what and why)?
In my role as a project lead, I am responsible for the timely and resource-efficient achievement of project goals. One of the most challenging projects was the implementation of a facility specific contamination control strategy, where I had to lead a cross-functional team and ensure the incorporation of novel regulatory requirements.
