Developing Our People

Developing Our People

At Boehringer Ingelheim, we are dedicated to investing in our people. We are committed to offering you the opportunity to build on your strengths and fully encourage our people to reach their potential. This support also includes investment in leadership training and personal development so that our managers and future managers get the best from their teams.

Your personal development is owned by you and supported by your Manager. We have a global approach to learning via the Boehringer Ingelheim University, supporting you to perform at your best and grow in our organisation. We are committed to internal talent development and support individuals via secondments, intercompany working and global opportunities. We truly believe that your growth is our growth..

Boehringer Ingelheim values personal growth and progression and we have a robust and transparent career progression programme in place. We offer flexibility to support your chosen career path which can take many different directions. We look to play to your strengths and motivations to meet the business needs.

Learning opportunities

We are advocates of the 70, 20,10 model when it comes to successful learning and development. We encourage employees to invest time focusing on their own personal development which we know brings considerable rewards to both the business and the individual.

  • 70% learning includes on-the-job experiences, secondments, project work, job enlargement and enrichment. You will be able to reach your full potential with regular reviews with your manager focusing on your development. We proactively seek opportunities within our own teams and within the wider business to provide opportunities for employees to work with new stakeholders, attack new challenges and develop new skills.
  • 20% learning includes coaching, mentoring and feedback – learning through people, especially your manager and peers. Sharing experience and challenging colleagues in a supportive environment is a proven way to enable people to achieve their personal development goals.
  • 10% of your development time should be spent with more traditional learning solutions such as e-learning, face to face training or professional/education programmes. You will also have the opportunity to attend external courses as required. The online portal provides a comprehensive list of compliance training and additional computer based training that can support you in your specific role. As appropriate we are also keen to continue to offer professional qualifications to our people to keep them up to date.

Your future; your development

To help you focus on your career development you will have regular open and honest discussions with your manager about your development and performance. This will provide you with an opportunity to focus on the skills, knowledge, competencies and strengths you need to focus on to develop. At Boehringer Ingelheim, we want you to grow and thrive in your career and achieve your personal goals. We are committed to personal development planning and your manager will support you wherever possible to ensure each year you achieve your objectives.
