Investigator Initiated Studies (IIS)
- Boehringer lngelheim supports academic and community based researchers or consortia who are interested in independently proposing and conducting their own clinical research. Boehringer lngelheim may provide financial support and/or drug for approved IIS
- Boehringer lngelheim does not serve as the regulatory sponsor for IIS
- In general, IIS are not registrational studies and may be proof of concept or exploratory in nature. The budget for such studies should reflect fair market value for all costs
- Boehringer lngelheim requires researchers to apply for funding via an online application process

The Provision of Support to Healthcare Organisations, Healthcare Professionals and Patient Organisations
Boehringer Ingelheim Ireland (BIIL) is committed to enhancing patient care in Ireland by considering requests for Grants and Other Forms of Support through:
- Financial support (grants) for independent educational meetings organised by Healthcare Organisations (or a 3rd party), where Boehringer Ingelheim is not purchasing a commercial opportunity such as a promotional stand
- Purchase of equipment
- Financial support (grants) to Patient Organisations to aid with disease awareness projects or activities
- Boehringer Ingelheim requires HCO’s, HSS and Patient Organisations to apply for funding via an online application process
At the current time Boehringer Ingelheim is only able to consider requests within the following therapy areas:
- Specialty Lung Diseases
- Diabetes and other metabolic diseases

Each request must:
- Be submitted at least 8 weeks in advance of the proposed activity taking place. Due to administrative restrictions, BIIL cannot consider requests within a shorter timeline
- Stipulate how the support will benefit patient care and / or the NHS
- Include all relevant key information about the proposed activity or educational meeting e.g. agenda
- Provide a breakdown of the overall costs for the proposed activity or educational meeting
- Specify the total amount of funding being requested and if any other funding contributions have been sought
Please note: ALL qualifying applications are reviewed by the Boehringer Ingelheim Funding Governance Committee. No commitment of support can be made prior to committee approval. Successful applications for funding will be subject to public disclosure as a Transfer of Value to a Healthcare or Patient Organisation in accordance with the IPHA Code of Practice.
Any provision of support by Boehringer Ingelheim is by no means intended to impose undue influence or induce the prescription, administration, recommendation, purchase or sale of any Boehringer Ingelheim medicines.
Boehringer Ingelheim Ireland cannot support requests for:
- Funding to individual Healthcare Professionals, e.g. support for personal development opportunities, individual research projects or academic qualifications (e.g. MSc, PhD)
- Requests from Healthcare Professionals for support towards attendance at professional and scientific conferences
- Religious programmes
- Financial contributions to Political Parties
- Charitable fundraising events outside Ireland
- Social events

BIL will keep a record of your name, email address, organisation address and any other relevant information that you provide for as long as required to process your application and meet financial, legal and transparency obligations only.
