Co-Creation with Communities

In an era of globalization and social connectivity, one-dimensional solutions often do not work anymore. Complex challenges need complex solutions. To be sustainable and highly impacting, diverse perspectives, approaches, and capabilities through traditional and non-traditional partnerships are required. To the end, Making More Health (MMH) has launched co-creation projects in Asia, Africa, Europe, and other localities worldwide with social entrepreneurs.

Networking and co-creation are essential – these are the driving elements for MMH’s next phase to build a sustainable ecosystem of change for communities living close to the poverty line. This means developing holistic solutions and tackling the most pressing issues in parallel while bringing together the right partners from a social entrepreneurial background, local stakeholders, and companies.

Ten years ago, Making More Health (MMH) was founded by Boehringer Ingelheim in cooperation with the social entrepreneurs’ network Ashoka. Based on a shared value approach, MMH is already more than a social initiative supporting social entrepreneurs - it has become a movement of change inside and outside the company. Since then, MMH gas already impacted the lives of 10 million people living in vulnerable communities.

Shared value vs. conventional business

In contrast to traditional approaches, where companies do not automatically connect social and environmental issues to the heart of the business activities, shared value means that social innovation and environmental protection must be part of the daily core business activities. Social and environmental challenges can be addressed and tackled together through cooperation with NGOs, social entrepreneurs, and other local stakeholders on a regional and community level.

In 2020, MMH started its fourth implementation phase to build a sustainable and holistic ecosystem. The experience and work of the last ten years have enabled us to implement many projects and activities in our areas of operations worldwide - together with these stakeholders. Now it is time to link these projects globally and create more health and social innovation through co-creation. Together we want to bring healthcare to more people and build holistic solutions, which supports our MMH communities sustainably and effectively. By 2030, we aim to support 50 million lives – through co-creation with our partners.
