Poultry trends in Europe and UK

In Europe and the United Kingdom, the sails are set for greater animal wellbeing. “We’ll have less antibiotics, more welfare, more quality and more added value for the poultry sector,” comments Dr. Julien Flori, veterinarian and president of Groupe Vétérinaire Chêne Vert Conseil in France.

Dr. Sara Perez from Poultry Health Services in the UK adds: “The future of the poultry industry is bright, I think. There is a need for more protein of animal origin as the population grows. The main thing that we need to be aware of is sustainability and climate change. I think these are areas where we’ll need to work together.”

COVID-19 has hit many national economies in Latin America, leading to greater price sensitivity. However, Dr. José Manuel Arriola Gil from Bachoco SA de SV in Mexico believes that disruption also creates momentum for change: “Companies like Boehringer Ingelheim have a great opportunity during these times. The pandemic has exposed many weaknesses in systems.”

There are many issues we can help address. Lorenn Silva, from BRF in Brazil shares where she sees the future of poultry: “I think it’s worth noting that we are living in a time of great challenges and a growing world population. A future that will increasingly require a sustainable production process, as well as meat that is of high quality and is safe.”
