GUARDIANS FOR HEALTH

GUARDIANS FOR HEALTH is a global initiative with the vision to stop early mortality by reducing heart and kidney complications in people with type diabetes. Its mission focus is to foster the implementation of clinical guidelines.

More than 400 million people worldwide are living with type 2 diabetes. Although science provides clinicians with the knowledge and evidence to prolong patients’ lives and prevent complications, a gap remains in implementing this knowledge in clinical practice.

GUARDIANS FOR HEALTH aims to build a community of healthcare professionals who share the vision of better health and longevity for people with type 2 diabetes. The initiative provides a platform for exchange on best practices, tools to support clinical decision making in routine workflow, and a framework for quality assurance.

Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and impaired kidney function are often interconnected. Therefore, medicine nowadays moves away from treating these conditions separately, and rather addresses them as interrelated factors. GUARDIANS FOR HEALTH encourages the broad and routine use of guideline-recommended approaches for holistic prevention strategies.

Putting the patient at the heart of any treatment plan is key. GUARDIANS FOR HEALTH supports doctors and people living with type 2 diabetes to engage in shared decision making. It’s not just about being given a treatment plan. It’s about empowering people with type 2 diabetes to build confidence, understand the recommended therapies and take control of their health.
