More Potential: Overview
Society continues to face major challenges ranging from health to education, job opportunities, living conditions, inequality and poverty - often affecting disadvantaged communities the most. By continuing on the path it set more than 135 years ago, Boehringer Ingelheim is expanding its commitment to sustainable development. In doing so, it continues to build on its historical successes in researching solutions in areas of unmet medical need and reinforces its commitment to global challenges for health and society.
More Potential is one of the three pillars of Boehringer Ingelheim's sustainability strategy "Sustainable Development - For Generations". The More Potential pillar is committed to providing employees, communities, partners along our value chain with the best conditions to reach their full potential. More Potential empowers them to be drivers of positive change and to help shape solutions to social challenges.
Our More Potential initiatives
Boehringer Ingelheim feels a strong commitment to the people in the company. This includes providing a safe, healthy and fulfilling work environment where talent is developed and employees can excel and engage. Recent examples include a company-wide mental health awareness and support campaign and participation in the European Union's "Lighten The Load" campaign, which promotes healthy working, particularly outside the office.
The company is also continuously increasing its commitment to human rights and business ethics, in line with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Boehringer Ingelheim's commitment to the goals of More Potential also impact its collaboration with business partners along the value chain. For example, through the updated Supplier Code of Conduct, which reflects the high expectations of patients, states and society towards Boehringer Ingelheim.
In addition, Boehringer Ingelheim's commitment to Diversity & Inclusion goes beyond the usual focus on employees. Instead, these criteria are also applied to practices in the core business.
The goal of the flagship Making More Health initiative is to enable collaboration to co-create healthy, inclusive and sustainable communities. The focus is on engagement with communities that are disadvantaged in areas such as health, education, job prospects, living and working conditions. To achieve this goal, Boehringer Ingelheim works with Ashoka, the world's largest network for social entrepreneurs. Together, innovative healthcare solutions are developed and implemented in disadvantaged communities. To date, more than 120 social entrepreneurs have been supported.
More Potential is expected to gain further momentum by expanding and establishing new initiatives to further develop the sustainability program and implement their planned commitment by 2030.
