Depression
Depression can take several forms, with major depressive disorder (MDD) being one of the most frequent presentations. MDD is one of the most common mental health conditions, with approximately 280 million people worldwide estimated to suffer from depression. People with MDD can experience a prolonged depressed mood, anxiety and loss of interest in daily activities, alongside other symptoms such as lack of energy, poor concentration, appetite changes, sleep disturbances, or suicidal thoughts. It can impact all aspects of life, including in the community and at home, work and school.
Early diagnosis and treatment are important. Current first-line treatments can take several weeks to have an effect, and only half of patients experience a clinical response. There is a significant need for convenient treatment options that work faster, are more effective, and have fewer side effects.
