Lung Cancer

Overcoming stigma and advancing lung cancer advocacy.

4 in 10 people have less sympathy for people with lung cancer than other types of cancer1. This simple, shocking statement reveals more about why so many people diagnosed with lung cancer must battle not only a deadly disease but also face the stigma that engulfs the condition.

As well as lung cancer having the worst outcome of all cancers, the prejudice tied to smoking can lead to patients feeling judged and blaming themselves. Whilst smoking is a strong risk factor for lung cancer, it is not the only one- 10-20% of people who develop lung cancer have actually never smoked 2.

Lung Cancer Awareness

“You don’t need to smoke to get lung cancer. You need lungs to get lung cancer”.

In this video, Danielle Hicks, Chief Patient Officer at Go2 for Lung cancer, gives us an insight into her personal journey with lung cancer. She emphasises the need to shift public perception and understanding of this complex disease.
