Health Equity: No distance is too far

India is hosting the G20 summit. The leading theme "One Earth, One Family, One Future" emphasizes health equity and sustainability as part of the agenda. Providing access to healthcare to rural areas

Equal access to health services is not a given for everyone. Despite progress over the past few decades, a significant proportion of our global population still struggles to attain the best possible level of healthcare services. Communities that are considered underserved are particularly at risk. Exposed to health inequities, these have a significant impact on living conditions and access to health care, thereby impacting their quality of life.

Through our “Sustainable Development – For Generations” framework, Boehringer Ingelheim aims to expand access to healthcare for 50 million people in vulnerable communities and invest EUR 35 billion in health innovation and research to tackle non-communicable diseases by 2030. By developing a company-wide definition, our intention is to provide a credible and consistent approach to identifying underserved communities and solutions needed to help eliminate healthcare disparities.

More on the G20 Summit in India

The 18th Heads of State and Government Summit of the Group of 20 (G20) will take place on September 9-10 in New Delhi, India. This year’s summit is hosted under the leading theme “One Earth, One Family, One Future”.

The G20 is composed of most of the world's largest economies, including both industrialized and developing nations. The G20 members represent around 85% of the global GDP, over 75% of the global trade, and about two-thirds of world’s population.

At this year’s summit, the G20 Health Ministers have defined the following health priorities: Health emergencies prevention, preparedness, and response (with focus on One Health and AMR); strengthening cooperation with the pharmaceutical sector with a focus on access and availability, and digital health innovation to aid universal health coverage.
