Our Commitment
Humanity faces great challenges. Communities are excluded. Global health crises expose our vulnerabilities. Demographic change with growing and aging population groups creates new pressures on our healthcare systems and our global society. Climate change threatens life on our planet. Boehringer Ingelheim wants to be part of the solution to these challenges because we always strive to be better: to develop better therapies, to enable better healthcare solutions and to always do our utmost to ensure that we live in a better world. We believe that we can always do more - for ourselves and for future generations.
At Boehringer Ingelheim, our drive has always been to improve human and animal health. Now we are taking this ambition to the next level: building on our success in exploring solutions in areas of unmet medical need. We are expanding the scope of our goals for society and the environment - and we are asking what more we can do to contribute to a more sustainable world and a healthier future.
"Sustainable Development - For Generations" includes initiatives that we have been driving for many years and that we are now further developing with ambitious targets to increase our contribution to health, society and our planet. In doing so, we achieve greater long-term economic and social value for our stakeholders, the communities we serve, and ultimately for our employees and our business. In doing so, we are also expanding our contribution to the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
By 2030, we aim to transform health and make a positive impact on the lives of 100 million people in disadvantaged communities worldwide. Consequently, we are continuously expanding our activities that focus on access to healthcare. We are also investing in community programs where our employees, partners, social entrepreneurs can get involved.
We are increasing our contribution to a healthier future for people, animals and the environment by continuing to invest in innovations that find solutions to areas of unmet medical need, provide sustainable access to healthcare and contribute to food security and food supply.
We commit to investing a total of €35 billion in innovation and research to combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by 2030, and an additional €250 million in partnerships and collaborations to combat infectious diseases.
In addition, we are expanding our work against climate change by reducing our own impact on the environment and helping to protect our planet. We plan to become carbon neutral in our business operations by 2030 and to halve our resource consumption along our value chain.
We are a company with around 52,000 employees who impact the lives of millions of people and animals around the world. That's why at Boehringer Ingelheim, we believe we can make a significant difference by committing to improving the way we think, work and live.
