With its presence in Greece of more than a half century, Boehringer Ingelheim inaugurated the production facility in Koropi in 1975. Located in Attica, within the outskirts of Athens, Koropi is the only industrial production facility of a multinational pharmaceutical company in Greece. As a production plant, it not only supplies the Greek market but also the market of more than 70 countries. In total, around 400 employees work at this site for Boehringer Ingelheim in Greece.

In terms of production, the current focus of Koropi lies on innovative antidiabetic medications for which a new production line was created in 2012 as a result of a management decision to move to the production of strategic pharmaceutical products. The production process is now fully automated, with state-of-the-art machinery. For the serious investments needed for this transformation, Boehringer Ingelheim received the Prix Galien Hellas 2019 distinction for the most serious sustainable investment in the pharmaceutical industry. In 2020, Boehringer Ingelheim announced further multi-year investments into Koropi, with the aim of transforming this site into a new production hub for its innovative medications.
