Cleaning up the coast for a greener future
In September 2023, a dozen Boehringer Ingelheim employees from our Biopharma site in Fremont, California, spent the day cleaning up the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge is located less than three miles from our Fremont facility, which is near the beautiful San Francisco Bay and surrounded by natural habitat with a valuable ecosystem.
Together, colleagues connected with nature and with one another – appreciating the planet’s beauty, vastness, and the life that it sustains.
When the planet is healthy – so are people and animals
Teams picked up 45-60 bags of waste/litter, including:
- Plastics
- Styrofoam
- Rubber debris
- Other items, like shoes and tennis balls
Helping to clean up this area has a significant impact on protecting the San Francisco Bay and the wildlife refuge. The refuge provides habitat for migratory birds and endangered species along with nature trails and recreation for the local community.
Raising more awareness
To take their sustainability efforts further, the Fremont team also partners with Alameda County Water District to raise awareness across their site and local communities about water efficiency.
