Boehringer Ingelheim launches innovative vaccine combination to protect U.S. swine from two viruses in one shot
The U.S. swine business of Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health has launched a vaccine combination that protects pigs in one shot from two of the most devastating and economically damaging swine diseases.
FLEX CircoPRRS® protects pigs from Porcine Circovirus Type 2 (PCV2) and the virus that causes Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS). The viruses can hinder performance, impair the immune system, and make pigs more susceptible to other diseases. That makes it critical to have prevention protocols in place.
Boehringer Ingelheim is the only one of its competitors in the U.S. to offer protection in one shot against the two viruses.
“This innovative vaccine combo will help keep pigs healthy and help producers operate more efficiently,” said Lara Sheeley, who leads the U.S. swine team at Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health.
“We know that when animals are healthy, humans are healthier, too,” she said. “By delivering value through science and innovation, we enhance the well-being of both to create a healthier tomorrow for our animals, people and our communities.”
John Waddell, director of key account veterinarians on Boehringer Ingelheim’s U.S. swine team, said the vaccine combination will help producers.
“Having the ability to combine PCV2 and PRRS vaccines in a single dose can help producers ensure their herds are getting the protection they need while reducing stress on each pig,” he said. “A customizable, one-shot protocol could also help producers save time and reduce their material costs compared to giving multiple injections.”
