Through purchasing and contracting practices, the company embraces the principles of strengthening the national and local economy by aiding, counseling and protecting the interests of small businesses. Boehringer Ingelheim helps nourish creativity in the U.S. workforce by supporting entrepreneurs, particularly those who are socially and economically disadvantaged.

Our Mission
Our Mission is to encourage the use of minority, LGBT and women-owned suppliers as well as suppliers with strong diversity and inclusion programs. Additionally, some of the other various small business concerns are Small Disadvantaged, HUBZone, and service disabled veteran-owned small businesses. Access to purchasing opportunities and fair and impartial consideration will be given to any reputable concern, small or large, which is qualified to supply goods or services that satisfy our requirements. The goal of BI is to purchase all goods and services at the best over-all value to the Company, taking into consideration quality, delivery, functional performance, and price.
Program Overview
Our Supplier Diversity Program encourages business partnering from Suppliers in the following categories:
- Small Business Enterprise (SBE): as defined by the Small Business Administration (SBA)
- Minority Business Enterprise (MBE): Business that is 51% owned and operated by an individual(s) who are U.S. citizens and their ancestry is African American, Native American, Hispanic, Asian Pacific or Asian Indian.
- Women Business Enterprise (WBE): Business that is 51% owned and operated by a woman
- LGBT Business Enterprise (LGBTBE): Business that is 51% owned and operated by a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender person
- Disabled Owned Business Enterprise (DBE): Business that is 51% owned and controlled by a disabled person
- Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB): Business that is 51% owned and controlled by a disadvantaged person and is a small business based on the meets the SBA’s size standards.
- HUB Zone Business (HUB): Small businesses located in economically depressed areas, whereby a percentage of the workforce resides in the economically depresses area.
- Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Business (SDVBE): Small business that is 51% owned by U.S. veteran of the armed services that became disabled during military service
- Veteran Business Enterprise (VBE): Business that is 51% owned by a U.S. veteran of the armed services

SELF CERTIFICATION :
BI’s Self Certification must be completed as part of the initial onboarding process to ensure the supplier’s profile is marked as small or diverse in the Master Data Management (MDM) system. The supplier will also be required to Certify their Small or Diverse Status annually thereafter.
