The 70-20-10 approach
We follow the 70-20-10 approach, where most of the learning takes place in your daily work (70%) and through feedback from others (20%). The remaining 10% comes from formal training, development programs, and courses.

Mentoring, coaching and feedback
There is no better resource for learning about how we operate than the people who work here. We set great store by the systems we use to do share their insights.
One-to-one mentoring is a great way to transfer expert knowledge in fine detail, enabling the next generation of specialists to find out how it’s really done. We also enjoy great success with reverse mentoring, cascading knowledge from our digital natives to their analogue seniors.
When an employee has a specific issue to work through, coaching can support them as they reflect on their experiences, identify the problem, and find a better way of doing things.
And because we can all learn from each other, wherever we are in our careers, we are committed to 360º feedback – not as a performance assessment tool but as a confidential resource for individual development.
Our academies
Boehringer Ingelheim’s functional academies are the backbone of our formal learning. Carefully designed learning systems in specific fields are available to any employee who wants to upskill. For example: our University of Medicine Excellence, our Data Science Academy, our Language or Digital Workplace academies and others. They’re all accessible via the Virtual Campus of Boehringer Ingelheim University.
Further qualification programs
