Having an Upstander culture

We’re committed to embracing the Upstander mindset, which means standing up for equality and against discrimination within – and outside of – our organization. Incorporating DEI in what we do

To do our part for our work family and communities across the country, we emphasize the importance of:

  • Supplier diversity, particularly protecting the interests of small businesses and entrepreneurs who are socially and economically disadvantaged. This includes supporting minority, veteran, women-owned, and LGBTQ+ suppliers as well as suppliers with a strong diversity and inclusion program.
  • Health equity, including confronting health disparities by bringing clinical trials to diverse populations, advocating for patients, and identifying ways to improve access to care.
  • Culture of caring, specifically through volunteering, corporate giving, being a part of community-based programs, and encouraging partnerships that emphasize diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Diversity of thought where our people are inspired to have innovative ideas that help develop much-needed medicines and bring more value to our patients and customers.

Connecting with people of all backgrounds

We support a range of programs that embrace many dimensions of diversity including race, ethnicity, gender identity, ability, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, and military status.

  • Our employee-driven business resource groups are opportunities for colleagues to be there for one another, share experiences, and learn together.
  • We offer a variety of forums for all employees to share ideas and get involved with diversity, inclusion, and multicultural initiatives. We discuss recruitment and retention, professional development, life balance, and how we can further our commitment to people and animals.
  • We work closely with our Diversity and Inclusion Patient Council to gain patients’ perspectives, learn from their experiences, and ensure they’re engaged throughout the drug development process.
